Introducing Login Enterprise 5.9 for Seamless Workload Automation and Testing

With the release of Login Enterprise 5.9 we continue our quest to make our workload automation and testing easier to use, faster to implement, and better integrated into the enterprise environments of today.
The features in this significant release focus on ease of use (workload creation), reporting updates, improvements to alerts, and an upgrade to the Linux operating system used in the Login Enterprise virtual appliance.
Unveiling Our New Script Recorder
The biggest feature we are releasing in 5.9 is our new Script Recorder. While everyone knows our industry-standard Knowledge Worker workload, more and more customers are creating custom application workloads (scripts) to leverage our automated testing in testing or Change control processes and to monitor continual performance. To make workload creation extremely simple, we are introducing the ability to simply record your steps (or your app owner’s steps) using the application, and Script Recorder will output this into a Login Enterprise workload format!

Our goal is to create a simple, low-code/no-code tool that will allow you to test ANY of your Windows or web applications in an easy, repeatable, automated manner. Imagine the ability to test every application in a Windows build/image in minutes, resulting in a report on both application functionality and app performance. Or running a test on a regular interval that logs in and not only starts the application but performs common tasks and even starts web browsers and can test access to specific websites and functionality within that site! Script Recorder is going to make it extremely simple for Windows desktop and application engineers to build custom tests using their applications and their images in minutes.
This is our first step towards the next release where we will make the script recorder generally available. Our initial release of Script Recorder is focused on Windows applications, but web applications will be integrated shortly and continue to be supported using our current Application X-ray tool.
- Simply start the recording and use the application as you normally would (Script Recorder will highlight each button as it reads it and records where and what you click and type!)
- During recording you can pause, restart, etc, and you can merge generated scripts from multiple sessions into a single large workload.
- Once the recording is completed, you can edit it, add logic, or include items like timers and snapshots for reports.
- Once you are ready, Script Recorder will run (execute) your script locally and allow you to see any errors issues before you upload to your Login Enterprise system.
Microsoft Teams and GPU Workloads, Enhanced Reporting, and More!

In addition to making, it easier for customers to create new workloads, we are continually working on industry-wide application workloads. Our newest workload allows you to drive Microsoft Teams, and even test performance with Teams Meetings (hundreds of viewers to a single presenter actually interacting).

Knowledge Worker + GPU Workload
Our team has worked with processor/GPU manufacturers for years, and now we have designed a workload that emulates today’s web and graphics-heavy use cases. The GPU Reference Workload is a set of application scripts that are designed to use applications (that are readily available and without licensing on Windows 10 and Windows 11) to drive a graphics-intensive workload on the system for the purpose of measuring the benefits of GPU-enabled workspaces.
We have designed the GPU workload to be used by itself to drive user-based GPU load for reference purposes or combined with our Knowledge Worker workload to represent heavier users who use more graphically intense applications than typical “Office” users.

What’s New in Reporting
In previous versions, we introduced PDF reporting for a single load test. In 5.9, we are extending the PDF reports to include the ability to generate PDF reports comparing the results of multiple Load Tests. These reports are meant to be easily shared to understand the impact of performance changes within the environment.
Specific reporting changes:
- Combined Login and Test specific sections to create more viewable data and a better overview.
- Added active sessions and login window to finish all lines in the charts and in the report.
- We have added a UTC label to the test run time date so that it’s clear that the date in the report is in UTC and not local time.
- Messages related to EUX and VSImax scores are now added as comments to the result tables instead of separately below the table.
Updates to Continuous Test Alerting
Many customers have been asking for updates to our continuous testing. To respond, we have added more information to the alert emails of continuous tests to make troubleshooting easier. These updates include:
- (up to) 5 previous measurements, in addition to the measurement that triggered the alert email.
- The name of the launcher that was used for the measurement that exceeded the threshold.
- The name of the account that was used for the measurement that exceeded the threshold.
- All measurements in the mail now have a timestamp.
These changes allow our customers to better identify and remediate the location or performance issues from multiple locations utilizing our launchers and alerting systems.
Virtual Appliance OS Upgrade
Today, our product runs on Debian 10, which was our Long-Term Support (LTS) version until recently. As of June 2024, we are moving on from Debian 10. New installs of the product will use Debian 12. Existing customers who run the product on a version with Debian 10 will be asked to upgrade to Debian as part of the LE upgrade. This upgrade is not mandatory (yet) but will be required at a future date.
For those doing step upgrades, it is also possible to upgrade Login Enterprise to 5.9 first and then upgrade Debian afterward via the appliance menu, then system maintenance.
