Technical Marketing Engineers… the Rockstars of the Proof of Claim

Technical Marketing Engineers… the rockstars of the proof of claim

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season I figured it would be time to express my thanks to all of the Technical Marketing engineers we work with on a daily basis. Login VSI has become a standard in the hosted desktop and application delivery realm due in part to the overwhelming adoption of our software in this community—a community I have the good fortune of being a part of for the last 20 years.

So what is a Technical Marketing Engineer? I was once interviewing some outstanding architects and engineers for a position in my former company when one of them asked me “what the heck does technical marketing do?” I suppose some may think it is an oxymoron… I mean engineers in a marketing organization just sounds weird, that is of course until you are asked for a proof of claim. Essentially a technical marketing engineer is tasked with proving to the market that the products or services their company sells are viable in a working solution and do what they say they are going to do.

Most of the TMEs I know are very unique and sometimes coined as outgoing introverts. They are like the Special Forces for the technical sales and marketing units. They love to show off their products through white papers, demos, and training and typically have no issues putting together the entire solution themselves, including:

  1. Racking and Stacking
  2. Setting up and configuring IP and Storage Networking
  3. Building an Active Directory domain, DHCP and DNS
  4. Carving out storage, sometimes with replication and other advanced features
  5. Deploying solutions like VDI where they need to know hypervisors, desktop brokers, and management servers from multiple vendors
  6. Scripting automation
  7. Tuning the solution
  8. Testing the solution
  9. And blabbing on and on about how great their products are because they can prove it :-)

In the past it was unusual to find experts with such a broad and deep set of knowledge. In the spirit of virtualization and doing more with less I believe we will see more individuals like this in enterprise organizations who are taking it upon themselves to understand the world around them so that when everything gets plugged together, you have someone that knows it is going to work well.

I’d like to wish all of my technical marketing engineer, virtualization architect and systems engineer peers happy holidays and a great new year ahead. Best wishes to all of those I have had the pleasure to meet since I started working for Login VSI, and the many more I will look forward to knowing.

Cheers, you geeks!

Windows 10 – 1909 performance results and a look ahead at 2004

Is it just me or does Windows 10 2004 just not feel right as a name? Regardless of my opinion on that, Microsoft will release this 20H1 build in April of this year. But most organizations today are not going to implement this new version right away. Market research by VDI Like a Pro shows that most enterprises today are running Windows 10 1803, or 1809.
