The Workload mashup functionality refers to a workload that contains various parts of the official workloads combined together, which are then run in a 'round robin' sequence. For example, you could make a workload that is a combination of 20% Knowledgeworker and 80% Taskworker. Alternatively, you could create a workload of 20% Taskworker, 20% Knowledgeworker and 60% Powerworker.

You can find the Workload Mashup feature in the MMC, under Test Setup --> Scenario.

To enable this functionality, select Workload mashup from the list of workloads. Then click the green Plus button to open the Workload mashup selector pop-up.

Now choose the workloads you want to combine by opening the drop-down list, selecting the desired workload and then clicking the add button. Repeat these actions until you have defined the preferred combination of workloads.

Note: You cannot mix the default workloads with both the Multimedia and Storage workloads in the same mashup, as they rely on different performance indicators.

Then set the desired amount of sessions that you want the test to execute. If you do not set enough sessions you will receive an error message on screen when starting the test.

Workload Mashup Example

You can set the workload up as specifically as you would like, but here we will only show the shortest method to achieve the preferred workload. Let's say you want to do a test with 100 users using a workload with 20% Knowledgeworker and 80% Powerworker. You can create this in multiple ways, but we suggest you use the shortest method possible.

  • Method 1: 2 Knowledgeworker and 8 Powerworker workload mashup

This makes 10 and runs until 100 is reached, so 10 times. So each workload is worth 10% of the entire session run.

  • Method 2: 1 Knowledgeworker and 4 Powerworker workload mashup

This is exactly the same as the one before, except cut in half. It will still reach 100 sessions with an 80% Power/20% Knowledge ratio. But now each workload is worth 20% of the entire session run.

Advanced example:

If you want 1750 test users using three different workloads, i.e. 20% Task, 30% Knowledge and 50% Power ratio. The workload mashup should be 2x Taskworker, 3x Knowledgeworker and 5x Powerworker workloads. Since this is the shortest list you can make, every workload is worth 10% of the entire session run.

Note: The only problem you can run in to here is when you change the 1750 test users to 1755 test users. When you do this the 10 workloads can not complete its cycle and will stop at 5, so the last results will not be the correct ratio. Please make sure that the total workloads no. corresponds with the amount of test users. So if you have a workload mashup of 20 workloads make sure that the end digits of the amount of test users is 20/40/60/80 or 00.
